You can fold the hand if you think that you will not beat the dealer, your wager will be lost. If you think you can beat the dealer’s hand, raise your bet with the same amount as your original Tri Card ante bet. After raising the bet, the dealer’s cards are shown. Then your hand is compared to the dealer’s hand. The highest ranked poker hand is the winning hand.

In the Tri Card Pair Plus game, your hand will win if you have a pair or higher. The Tri Card Pair Plus wager is a different wager that’s not measured against the dealer’s hand, and the payout is based on the rank of the hand. But when you fold for the ante bet, you also forfeit the Tri Card Pair Plus wager.

How to play

The game of Tri Card Poker is played with a 52-card deck between a dealer and the player. In Tri Card Poker you can place three kinds of bets, including the Ante, Raise or Pair plus. While playing on the Ante and Raise bets, your main objective is to get a higher three card poker hand. And your goal on the Pair Plus is to simply bet on the probability of getting a three card poker hand with any pair or better.

Card Values

The cards from 2 through 10 in the game are ranked on their face values.

Jack, Queen, King and Ace are assigned the standard card values of 11, 12, 13 and 14 respectively.

The Ante wager

The game begins when you place an ante wager. Then three face-up cards are dealt to you and three face-down cards are dealt to the Dealer. If you feel that your cards are not good enough to beat the dealer’s hand, you can fold your hand. You lose your wager on folding the hand.

Raise bet

On the other hand if you think that your hand can beat the dealer’s hand, you raise your bet with an amount equal to your Ante bet. Once you have raised you bet, dealer will reveal their cards to you. If the dealer’s hand has the Queen or better, they will compare their hand to your cards. The one who has the highest pokerhand wins the game. If the dealer wins, you lose both your Ante and Raise bets. However, if the dealer loses, you are rewarded an ante bonus based on the Tri Card Poker payout table (See the payout Chart Below).

In case the dealer’s Tri Card Poker hand does not have a Queen or higher ranked card, they do not compare their hand with your hand. This leads to a push and you are paid 1:1 on your ante wager.

Pair Plus

You win the pair plus bet when you receive a pair or better in your hand. The best part about this wager is that it is not measured against the dealer’s hand. The payout for this bet is calculated independently based on the rank of the hand dealt (See the payout chart below). However, the pair plus wager is pulled off if you bet on Ante and fold the hand.

When you win

  • You win on the ante wager if your Tri Card Poker hand is higher than the dealer’s hand.
  • You also win if you raise your bet and the dealer does not qualify the hand by receiving a Queen or better.
  • You win on the raise bet if you draw a Tri Card Poker hand that outranks the dealers hand and the dealer meets the criteria of at least drawing the Queen in their hand.
  • You win on the pair plus if your Tri Card Poker hand has a pair.

When you lose

  • You lose your ante wager if you fold your hand or the dealer’s Tri Card Poker hand outranks your hand.
  • You lose your raise wager if the dealer draws a Tri Card Poker hand of a higher rank.
  • You lose your pair plus bet, if you do not reveal any pair in your Tri Card Poker hand.

Strategy

There are basically two types of betting options in the game of Tri Card Poker and the strategy to increase your odds is also centered around these wagering preferences.

The only strategy to play on the “Pair Plus” is the amount of bet that you decide to wager with. Let’s assume that you decide to wager with $2 and you get a straight flush. Now as the payout for straight flush in pair plus is 40:1, you win $80 (40 X 2 = 80) on your $2 bet. On the other hand, if you wager with $5, you win $200 (40 X 5 = 200). So, all you need to do is increase your betting values gradually as you win and decrease as you lose. You can even raise your betting amount to $250 once you have gathered enough credits from the lower bets.

Another important trick can come in handy when you make a decision to raise or fold on your “Ante” The reference point in the game of Tri Card Poker is Q-6-4. The best trick is to raise your ante wager if you get a hand which is either Q-6-4 or higher, otherwise fold. If you take a closer look at the Poker hands like, flush, straight, three of a kind and pair, you’ll find that all of them are better than the hand comprising Q-6-4.

If you already have a hand with a Queen, you must play if the second card is either 6 or higher than that. If your second card turns out to be 6, then play only if your third card is 4 or higher. Mentioned below are a few instances that can help you decide when to raise or fold your ante wager:

  • You must choose to raise your ante wager, if you get a hand having a K-2-3 as King has a value higher than the Queen.
  • You must fold if your hand includes, J-10-8 because Jack is worth lesser than the Queen.
  • Raise your ante wager, if you get a hand with a Q-J-2 since the value of Jack is higher than 6.
  • It is wise to fold your hand having Q-5-4 as the value of the second card is less than 6.
  • Likewise, you must decide to raise your ante wager if your hand is a Q-6-5 as the value of the third card is higher than 4.
  • On the other hand, it is better to fold if you get a hand with a Q-6-2 because the value of the third card is less than 4.

Tips

Tri Card poker is one of the many interesting table games you can find at CoolCat Casino. Now, if you wanted to find even more casino table games simply search through the site to play for real money or through the fun mode section. In Tri Card Poker there are better odds of winning great rewards if the dealer’s hand does not qualify by getting the Queen or better in a Tri Card poker hand.

Another vital tip to magnify your odds of winning in the game is picking up an online casino offering a good payout value. Let’s say if you place a bet of $5 on Ante and another $5 on Pair Plus then you must place another $5 chip on the raise bet if you get a Tri Card Poker hand of Q-6-4 or higher. However, prefer folding the hand if your Tri Card poker hand has a card value of less than Q-6-4. These hands will pay you better when raised than the return that they will get on ante wager. The house advantage against this strategy is 3.4%…. which is quite decent in the game of Poker. This is one of the finest trick to get the best long term results possible.

Another vital tip to magnify your odds of winning in the game is signing up at an online casino site offering a good payout value. You can judge the quality of payouts by checking out the payout value of the hand of flush. Good online casinos will provide a payout of 4:1 on the hand of flush as compared to the not so good online casinos with a payout of 3:1 on getting flush. CoolCat Casino offers a 4:1 payout on a hand of flush.

Histroy

Tri Card Poker has its roots in a three card betting game known as Primero which originated over three hundred years ago. Gradually, this game evolved giving way to more popular versions known as Post-and-Pair and later Brag. Brag was invented by a British professional Poker player Derek J. Webb in mid 1990.

Eventually the game of Brag made its way to America as Casino-Brag or Brit-Brag. Initially, this game was played on a very small scale –in small clubs or on the streets of America. This was only until Shuffle Master bought this game from Derek Webb in 1999. Shuffle Master is a premier gaming supply company that provides players with casino security and value-added casino products. In fact, it was Shuffle Master who brought this game to the casino table games, thanks to its sales and marketing prowess; it was then christened as Tri Card Poker. An increasing number of Tri Card Poker tables in the casinos and Tri Card Poker championships is testimony to its popularity.
