Craps is a game played with a pair of dice on a game board. The game table or board is divided into several zones with number values. Played against the number 7, your win depends on the kind of bet and the preference you have given for any other number being rolled out before or after 7. In other words, the appearance or non-appearance of the number of your choice vis-à-vis 7 when the dice is rolled determines your win.
The payouts depend on the zone the pair of dice fall into, and the kind of bet you have placed.
Before you start playing, take a good look at the layout of the craps table. The zones or spots marked on the table carry different payout ratios. The different areas on the table are: Pass Line, Don’t Pass Bar, Field, Big 6, Big 8, Don’t Come Bar, number boxes 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 (each with their place bet, buy bet, lay, come and don’t come zones) the Yo Elevens, the Any Craps, The Sevens, the Craps, and the Hard 4, 6, 8 and 10. The names of the zones get highlighted as you trace your cursor over them.
Now acquaint yourself with the kinds of bets you can place. For a start, place a small bet on the pass line, which forms the boundary line of the crap table. The Pass Line Bet is made by clicking on the chips on the counter. You can click on other areas of the table to place more than one bet. You can ‘clear’ the bets on the table, with the exception of the contract bets if you want to withdraw the bets.
When you click Roll, the game commences and the dice are tossed. This is called the Come-Out Roll. If you get a 7 or an 11 in the come-out roll, you’ve won the game already. If it’s 2, 3 or 12, you’ve rolled ‘craps’, and you’re already out of the game. Any number other than these establishes your ‘Point’, crucial to the rest of your game. Remember the following rules for the Come-Out Roll:
Number Rolled |
Result |
7, 11 (Natural) |
Win even money |
2, 3, 12 (Craps) |
You lose |
Neither Natural nor Craps |
Next number becomes the Point |
Point rolled before 7 |
You win |
As a player, (or a shooter), your objective now is to roll this number before rolling a 7.
Your payouts on a win when the Point is rolled before a 7 are as below:
Number Rolled |
Payout |
4 |
2:1 |
5 |
3:2 |
6 |
6:5 |
8 |
6:5 |
9 |
3:2 |
10 |
2:1 |
You proceed with the game, you can make a Pass Odds Bet. Here, your bet is on the Point preceding 7, and if the reverse action occurs, you lose. Your payouts on the pass odds are made in the following ratios:
Number |
Payout |
4 |
2:1 |
5 |
3:2 |
6 |
6:5 |
8 |
6:5 |
9 |

To make a Don’t Pass Bet, you need to select the Don’t Pass Bar located just above the Pass Line Bar along the chips counter. Here your bet is on either a 2 or a 3 being rolled in the come-out roll; or a 7 being rolled before a Point.
What are your stakes on the Don’t Pass Bet? Well, you win even money when 2 or 3 is rolled, but lose when it’s either 7 or the natural 11. If you happen to get the number 12, you push. If the rolled number is neither of the above, the next number that gets rolled becomes the Point. To win, 7 must be rolled before the Point, or you lose. Your payouts would accordingly be:
Number |
Payout |
4 |
1:2 |
5 |
2:3 |
6 |
5:6 |
8 |
5:6 |
9 |
2:3 |
10 |
1:2 |
The Don’t Pass Odds can only be made after the Don’t Pass Bet has been placed and a Point has been established. Calculated as a multiple on its predecessor, but maintaining the same payout ratio, it’s a bet that 7 would occur before the Point. As with Pass Odds, you win only when this happens, and your payouts would similarly be:
Number |
Payout |
4 |
1:2 |
5 |
2:3 |
6 |
5:6 |
8 |
5:6 |
9 |
2:3 |
10 |

You can play a Come Bet after the Pass Line Bet and once the Point has been determined. The bet can be placed by selecting the ‘COME’ zone on the game table. Keep in mind that this is a Contract bet, and cannot be cleared once selected when the round begins. The first roll of the dice after the placing of the Come Bet now assumes the status of a Come-Out Roll for your bet. This way, several rounds of craps can be played at the same time.
You win in two ways in the Come Bet – when either 7 or 11 figure in the come-out roll (when you earn even money), or when a Point is rolled before 7. Your chip is moved to the box corresponding with your Point number. So, a Point 4 would find the chip on the ‘4’ enclosure, and so on. The following table determines your payouts:
Number |

4 |
2:1 |
5 |
3:2 |
6 |

A Come Odds Bet can be placed after the Come Line Bet on the Point occurring before 7. It is placed by selecting the ‘Come Odds’ square for the Point that has been established. As a multiple on the Come Bet but in the same payout ratios displayed above, you win when the Point occurs before a 7.
As with the Don’t Pass Bet, the Don’t Come Bet allows the player to play multiple rounds of craps concurrently. The Don’t Come Bar is to be selected to use this bet, after a Point has been determined to play another round. The first roll of the dice after placing this bet is its come-out roll.
The Don’t Come Bet also gets you even money when 2 or 3 are rolled in the come-out roll, and payouts as per the following table when a 7 is rolled before the Point. If a Point gets established on the come-out roll of the Don’t Come Bet, your chip is moved to the Don’t Come Box of your Point number. The payouts are:

You can place another bet over the Don’t Come Bet, by selecting the Come Odds corner of the number box corresponding with the Point. Betting on 7 being rolled before a Point, this is the Don’t Come Odds. As in previous bets, it is a multiple on the Don’t Come, fetching you a payout when a 7 gets rolled before the Point. The payout ratios are the same as the Don’t Come Bets tabled above.
The Place Bet zone is the bar below each number box. By clicking on any of the numbers, you would have selected that particular Point number to be rolled before a 7. You win when your chosen number is rolled before a 7, at payouts as defined below:

The Place Lose Bet accords a win on the converse action of 7 appearing before the Point number. The Place Lose bar is just above the number box, so a click on the bar would select the number you want to bet on. The payouts on your win would be similar to the Place Bet payouts listed above.
The Buy Bet zone lies below the Place bet bar of every number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9,10) and your bet is placed on the number appearing after 7. In this bet you need to pay a 4% commission on the True Odds that you win on the bet. Your payouts, inclusive of the commission, are in the following ratios:

A Lay Bet is placed on the uppermost bar of a number box, and your bet is that 7 will be rolled before the number you have selected. Your wins on a Lay Bet will face a deduction of a 4% commission. The payout ratios, inclusive of the 4% commission are:

The Field Bet is placed on the zone above the Don’t Pass Bar. You can bet on any one of the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12, and your payouts are as follows:

Click on the one you want to bet on, keeping in mind that Hard 4, Hard 6, Hard 8 and Hard 10, also called Hard Way Bets are contract bets, and cannot be cleared once the game round starts. The Big 6 Bet is placed on the left corner of the table where the number 6 is selected as the forerunner of 7. You win even money on this bet.
Corresponding to the Big 6 is the Big 8 zone. Placing a bet here would mean you expect the number 8 to roll before 7. Here too you win even money.
To the left of the sevens is the Any Craps column which pays payouts to the ratio of 7:1.Here you bet that any craps, i.e. 2, 3, or 12 will roll before 7.
Adjacent to the Any Craps is the Yo Eleven series which pays to the ratio of 15:1. Your bet here is on the number 11.
