Blackjack has been popular since its inception in 17th century France. The game called “Vingt En-Un”, which literally means “21″ in French, was played in casinos across France. Though, not the first ancestor of blackjack, it shares some traits with the game of blackjack. Blackjack has always been seen as not just a game of chance, like casino slots, but as a game of skill as well.

For example, some land-based casinos require that dealers have one hand on a “shoe” and the other in the center of the table at all times. Dealers are also required to draw cards or to “hit” until they reach 17. Although blackjack seems to give a “house edge” or have the casino win most of the time, players get to double down their bet or take an insurance for the dealer’s hand. Players also get a split win for certain cards.
